Festivals Of Fire In Time

In follow-up to Through the Fires of Time, there are four festivals of fire in stellar time. These are the Greater Sabbats, the High Holy Days, of traditional Celtic witchcraft.

The four Fire Festivals can occur anywhere between 29-59 days following the preceding solstice or equinox. Apices of feminine power in time, these sabbatot are Imbolc (between Yule and Ostara), Beltane (between Ostara and Litha), Lughnasadh (between Litha and Mabon) and Samhain (between Mabon and Yule).

The Lesser Sabbats of the solstices and equinoxes (namely - Mabon, Yule, Ostara and Litha) are yearly lunar power points linked to the earthly feminine biological cycle. While times of imbalance in the solar cycle, they are times of power for the feminine Earth.

The Lesser Sabbats ground us with the full feminine power of the Earth Mother. The Greater Sabbats, the cyclical Fire Festivals in the wheel of the pagan year, expands our consciousness into the otherworlds of the heavens, and fill us with the full power of Goddess.

Power To Do It

Last night before bed I drew the fourteenth rune for my personal runerow, namely, the rune Ingwaz (pronounced eeeng-wawz) with an 'ng' phonetic value like the nasal 'ng' in the word singer.

Edred Thorsson (Runelore) writes, 'The Ingwaz-force is that which is released to give the plentiful year." It is a rune of peace, prosperity, cosmic nourishment, deep-level gestation and new power. In it are new ideas and solutions. Through it, people reach their potential, and homes and hearth are protected. Ingwaz is the principle of isolation, of wholiness, of being set aside in a period of contained concentrated transformational separation, of walking widdershins against the sun into the peaceful darkness of solitude. Ingwaz describes the nature of my life situation for nearly two decades now.

Drawing this rune last night immediately after posting Times Of Judgment And Blessing indicates to me that my life experience has now been concentrated, focused and magnified in Ingwaz, and through Ingwaz, the force to bring to fruition my Mabon-Rosh Hashanah spell working to project and distribute magical power, prosperity, success, healing, health, and protection from the evil eye person to person among my soul family is ready to be released.

What a wonderful divination!

The mystery of sabbat sabbatot and the high holy days emerge from the Divine Feminine.

Sabbatu, Women's Magic and Sacred Time

The word sabbat (שבת) is derived from the Babylonian word sabbatu, meaning 'heart's rest' and refers to the bleeding (menstrual) time when women's Goddess magic was particularly potent. In Hebrew tradition, Goddess is called the shabbat queen. The Hebrew letter ש can be vocalized as either 's' (שׂ) or 'sh' (שׁ). In Hebrew, the plural of sabbat/shabbat is sabbatot/shabbatot (שבתות). Interestingly, sabbatu spelled in Hebrew is שבתו. Ending with the Hebrew letter of connection, namely vav (ו), sabbatu itself carries and connects together all the sabbatot.

Lunar Sabbats and Earth Shabbats, Power Points of Feminine Power in Time

In ancient times, Babylonians called the four quarter days of the lunar cycle - the new, first, full and last quarter, one of which occurred about every seven days - sabbats. The modern weekly shabbat day of rest is fixed at every seven days. The sabbatot focus otherworldly (lunar-stellar) time, the shabbatot focus earthly time.

Stellar Sabbats, Points and Apices of Feminine Power in Time on the Earth

Through the feminine power of the lunar cycle, the masculine solar cycle of the year was designated and astrologically brought into alignment with the four feminine quarter days of the natural stellar cycle - the solstices and the equinoxes - the oldest holy days known to humanity. Ancient ritual observances of the quarter days can be found worldwide, from the ancient pyramids of Egypt to the cliff-wall dwellings of the Anasazi. The quarter days of the stellar cycle are the 'Lesser Sabbats' or 'Low Holy Days' of Witchcraft. The Lesser Sabbats are Ostara (spring equinox), Litha (summer solstice), Mabon (autumn equinox) and Yule (winter solstice).

The solstices and equinoxes are times of longest and shortest nights and of longest and shortest days of the year. While these days are days of imbalance in the masculine solar cycle, they are days of feminine lunar power.

The days of balance (equinimity) in the solar cycle are days in the masculine solar cycle between the powerful lunar points of the quarter days and form apices of feminine power between the feminine lunar power points - these are the cross-quarter days of the stellar cycle brought down to earth as 'earthly power points' for women's magic. The cross-quarter days of the stellar cycle are the 'Greater Sabbats' or 'High Holy Days' of Witchcraft. The Greater Sabbats are Imbolc (between Yule and Ostara), Beltane (between Ostara and Litha), Lughnasadh (between Litha and Mabon) and Samhain (between Mabon and Yule).

The Greater Sabbat of Lughnasadh is upcoming on the horizon here in the northern hemisphere of the earth. Lughnasash is traditionally observed on August 1, and astrologically observed this year on August 6-7. The Greater Sabbat of Imbolc is upcoming for those located in the southern hemisphere of the earth.

Gates Of The Great Rite

In follow-up to my previous two entries (Sanctuary Of Delight and Consummate Life To Enliven), where it is brought forth that even as the Gates of Prayer are closing and the Gates of the Temple are opening, I further note that connected to these Yom Kippur Gates of "closing" and "opening" are two Gates of the Celtic New Year, Beltane (now closing) and Samhain (now opening).

The Gate of the Celtic New Year is opening (as are the Gates of the Temple), becoming fully open at Samhain. Samhain is the Gate to the dark half of the year (corresponding to Essential consciousness). Beltane, the Gate to light half of the year (corresponding to emanated awareness), is closing (as are the Gates of Prayer).

The two Gates of the Year, represent a time of consummate interinclusion among the worlds (of both witchcraft and kabbalah) where worlds unite - symbolized by the Great Rite ritual (the originally "hidden" divination card) - to bring forth that which is greater than anything in the worlds alone - an experience of Essential Being.

The fifth shaman stone (from the yard outside my bedroom window) in my Temple Collection is represented by the Celtic goddess Blodeuwedd in the form of an owl (as opposed to her fair flower form as discussed in a previous entry, Relentlessly Faithful And True). It is in this form that she is definitively known as a Dark Goddess.

The short chapter in the book Doorways To The Otherworld (Catrin James), which discusses Blodeuwedd in her owl form, is introduced with the picture of a feather. Not with an owl, but with a feather. Interestingly, right before my Rosh Hashanah encounter with the cricket (קריקט), searching purposefully around in the grass for stones, I came across a single very small feather. I picked the feather up, gathered it into the folds of my skirt with two stones I had found (side by side) just moments before, and continued walking. A few seconds later, I encountered the cricket (a totem of "finding light within the dark", אתהפכא חשוכא לנהורא).

I wasn't looking for a feather, but I found one and kept it, knowing that its purpose would come to me later. What indeed is the connection between Blodeuwedd in her owl form, a feather and a cricket? The thread of connection is active release from a ritual binding and subsequent resurrection.

Catrin James writes of Blodeuwedd in the form of an owl:

It is through becoming an owl that Blodeuwedd escapes the manipulations of men who seek to confine her. Also (in the myth under discussion) Blodeuwedd as flower woman and owl is the only one not to be drowned ... And even as Blodeuwedd does not drown in the lake, so too you will find that in holding on to your truths at this time of transformation, you too will not drown ... In swimming in the ocean of the mystical, others may drown by listening to the wrong words, or identifying with ego, but in holding things lightly yet at the same time paradoxically realizing the sanctity of these messages, these visions, you are coming to a greater wisdom ... The owl dreamstone is to do with silence, stillness, and if you find anything belonging to owl, or indeed any other gifts of the sacred creatures such as feathers, these too can be added to your collection, amongst your most sacred things ... it is a visitation of the goddess, it is the unseen and she has put her hand upon you for a reason that you may not know right now but in the fullness of time will develop, even as darkness gives way to light.

Finding Blodeuwedd's feather on the second day of Rosh Hashanah is yet another amazing "coincidence", just like with my encounter with the deer on Erev Rosh Hashanah (as described in Witch's Shofar).

Taking the feather symbolism further into elucidating the thread of connection, a feather is used in preparation for Pesach (Passover) during the ritual called Bedikat Chametz (a ritual search for chametz, a substance which spiritually is that which can sour the outcome of spiritual development or mystical work). The important idea, especially within the unique context here with regard to Rosh Hashanah and the entire High Holy Day period, is that the sacred point of bedikat chametz is not to find chametz, but is to resolve all doubts. The existence of doubts implies the existence Amalek (collective negative energies which seek to destroy a person or people). Bedikat chametz therefore symbolizes the ritual destruction of Amalek (which in my case, would be all the negative energies which seek to destroy me and that which I am).

Rabbi Wein writes of Amalek's success as a destructive force throughout history in an article pertaining to Rosh Hashanah:

The centerpiece of our Rosh Hashanah observance, prayers, and sounding of the shofar is the remembrance of the akeidah – the binding of Yitzchak to the altar and Avraham’s apparent willingness to sacrifice him as worship to God. The akeidah has followed us throughout our long history. There have been millions of akeidot in Jewish history and most of them ended in the death of the victim and not in him or her being spared.

Yitzchak emerged from his experience of the akeidah (a wizard's binding ritual) alive (symbolized by the shofar), just as I emerged from my akeidah alive (symbolized by the appearance of the antlerless deer by the roadside). As Yitzchak was not slaughtered by knife, neither was I slaughtered by becoming involved in a fatal collision of my car with a deer. Finding Blodeuwedd's feather destroys all doubt that I am spared. And, as Yitzchak was resurrected from the Rosh Hashanah altar of Avraham, so too am I resurrected from the Rosh Hashanah altar of the Sacred Earth, through my encounter with the cricket subsequent to finding Blodeuwedd's feather. As a totem creature, cricket "is about resurrection. Awesome!

Thank Goddess, She has released the bound. Of course, upon my fifth shaman stone shall be written matir assurim (מתיר אסורים) in Hebrew, Ogham and Bardic runes. Interestingly, the shoresh-root (תור) of the word matir (meaning 'who releases') can, among its many meanings [1], mean "purposeful searching" (like I was doing, looking for stones) and "foraging for grass" (like the cricket was doing when I, looking for stones, saw her).

Witch's Shofar

Erev Rosh Hashanah

After work earlier today, right before Rosh Hashanah, as I was driving home, nearing my house outside of town, a deer lept out of the woods along the road and almost into the street, right into my car's path. Only, it stopped and turned back just moments in time to avoid being struck.

The deer that I didn't hit seemed to look sideways through the windshield at me as it was turning. Right into my eyes. See me, it seemed to say. Our souls connected for that brief instant. Then, the deer sped away back into the woods.

Such was my magical encounter with the deer of Rosh Hashanah. What does a deer have to do with Rosh Hashanah?

Dave at Balashon writes on the etymology of shofar:

"Shofar... Judaism: A trumpet made of a ram's horn, blown by the ancient Hebrews during religious ceremonies and as a signal in battle, now sounded in synagogue during Rosh Hashanah and at the end of Yom Kippur. Etymology: Hebrew shofar, ram's horn; akin to Akkadian sapparu, sappar, fallow deer... from Sumerian segbar, fallow deer." (The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition.)

Akkadian and Sumerian are two long-extinct languages once spoken, in the millennia before the Common Era, in what is now called Iraq and historically known as Mesopotamia or Babylonia. Akkadian belonged to the Semitic family. Until recently, Sumerian was considered one of those rare tongues, like Basque, for which linguists were unable to find relatives at all. Since the 1970s, however, an impressive body of evidence has accumulated, linking it to the Dravidian languages of southern India, such as Tamil. We are told, then, that our shofar derives its name from the Sumerian word for a fallow deer. This may not seem like much of a problem to you, but having looked into it, I can assure you that it is.

Interesting "coincidence," I think.

I understand the problem. You see, if the etymology of shofar is linked through Sumerian to the Dravidian language, and thereby to the Dravidian religion, then this is indeed a problem for traditional Judaic thinkers. Why? Because the Dravidian religion of the Indus Valley is the source of the Old Religion called Witchcraft. This would make the shofar (a major instrument through which the Jewish people were brought into being) a tool whose origin is sourced in the Old Religion of Witchcraft.

So, while the result of Dave's investigation into the etymology of the word shofar may not seem like much of a problem to you, I assure you, it is. LOL.

Stones From The Temple Of Joy

Dating from around 3200 BCE, the Temple of Newgrange is an earth mound measuring 44 feet high. The megalithic boulders which surround the Temple each measure up to 8 feet high. In Celtic magic, in the mysticism of bringing light from darkness, there are 36 shaman stones of hidden mystery.

Dating during the second century BCE, the second Temple of Jerusalem was rededicated, marked in the current age with the 44 total lights (36 menorah plus the 8 shamash candles) of Chanukah. In Jewish kabbalah, in the mysticism of bringing light from darkness, there are 36 lamedvavniks of hidden mystery.

We can see then that in both Celtic and Jewish mysticism the numbers 44, 36 and 8 are directly connected to the hidden mysteries of the Temple and to bringing light from darkness.

Like my Celtic ancestors, to bring light from darkness, I am collecting a set of 36 sacred shaman stones from the earth, to be dedicated over 8 nights during the month of Shamash according to the Celtic witch's calendar.

Like my Jewish ancestors, to bring light from darkness, I will light 44 candles over the course of 8 nights, ritually dedicating each of the 36 shaman stones in the light of its corresponding candle (36 over 8 nights plus 8 shamash candles, one for each night) according to pattern of Chanukah.

This year, the first day of Chanukah is also the sabbat of Yule (the Celtic festival of light and the astrological winter solstice). Chanukah/Yule falls during the month of Shamash in the Celtic witch's calendar.

Like my Native American ancestors and in honor of the Land upon which I live, the first shaman stone dedicated to my Temple Collection of shaman stones is a moqui stone.

In Celtic magic, the first shaman stone corresponds to the wolf spirit. My wolf spirit stone will be marked in Ogham letters with the word gliondar meaning joy, with the Hebrew letters chet-gimel-sin-sin (the first letter of each of the four words for joy in Hebrew - chedvah, gilah, simchah, sason - where the letters taken as a phrase together - חג שש - mean "the circle of rejoicing"), and in English letters with the Welsh word gorfoleddu meaning rejoice, to be joyful.

Mystical Mabon, Selicha Of Witches

Mabon is the time of the year when day and night are equal, the forces of masculine expansion and feminine restriction are in balance, and the god and the goddess dance in harmonic hishtavut.

My friend Eluned Bridhe writes of Mabon from the Norse tradition of witchcraft:

Mabon was a time when the old Norse people believed one's fate for the coming year was sealed. The Norse often spent the day and night before Mabon fasting and praying for forgiveness for transgressions. Divinations and vision quests were done to ascertain whether one's life in the last year had been pleasing to the deities.

This aspect of Mabon has correspondence to the period of Selichot in Judaism:

Selichot (Hebrew: סליחות) are Jewish penitential poems and prayers, especially those said in the period leading up to the High Holidays. Selicha (סליחה) is Hebrew for "forgiveness." Selicha is the category of selichot which comprises the vast majority of the Selichot service of the High Holy Days.

This year (2008/5768), Mabon falls on Monday September 22nd, a day which in the Celtic calendar begins Sunday at sundown, September 21st of the civil calendar.

This year (2008/5768), "Selichot (according to Ashkenazi custom) will begin after midnight of Sunday morning, September 21st."

In both traditions, the time of forgiveness begins in the dark of the day (one early Sunday morning and the other late Sunday night - at both ends of the day, together embracing one day), with the Divine Feminine power. She is the gatekeeper to forgiveness.

Mabon marks a day when the Divine Name is One ... when it shall come to pass, that at evening time there shall be light.

So mote it be, אמן.

See The Sound, A Magical-Mystical Synesthesia

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. — A massive blaze that broke out on a lot at Universal Studios early Sunday destroyed the "Back to the Future" set, the King Kong exhibit and a video vault.

Los Angeles fire chief Michael Freeman said over 400 city and county firefighters were mobilized to battle the fire, which broke out at around 4:30 Sunday morning on a sound stage on a back lot.

"The fire moved through the area extremely fast," Freeman said.

The damage included the backlot area, known as New York Street, Court House Square —which was a set for the film "Back to the Future" — and the King Kong exhibit. Also destroyed was a video vault located behind the street facades, Freeman said.

Thick columns of smoke have been seen rising thousands of feet into the air, and one person described the scene as "looking like a bomb had exploded in the San Fernando Valley."

Freeman said the black smoke is a result of plastic video containers burning in the vault, which firefighters worked to save. “They moved hundreds of containers out of that structure,” he said.

Ron Meyer, President and Chief Operating Officer at Universal Studios, said that between 40,000 to 50,000 videos and reels were in the video vault, but there are duplicates stored in a different location.

“We were really lucky today.” Meyer said. “Nothing irreplaceable was lost.”

Interestingly, the Universal Studios fire broke out on a sound stage.

We saw here that sound was a central point connecting seemingly unconnected events this past Shabbat (Celtics Polish Off Pistons and Her Sound In The Garden), a time when thunder and lightning and dense clouds rolled across the midwest. In other words, we saw the sound connection this past Shabbat, and we continue to see the sound connection today in this magical-mystical synesthesia. Well, it is close to Shavuot after all. There are 3 names of Shavuot. The fire at Universal Studios was a 3-alarm fire.

Coarse Grains Of Redemptive Blessing

In follow up to Transformative Pesach Prophecy, several elucidating ideas emerge from Ceridwen's cauldron of transformative prophecy.

Pesach-Beltaine Connection

Pesach Sheni is May 19 (Iyar 14, corresponding to the time we count the 30th day of the Omer) and astrological Beltaine (Beltaine Sheni) is May 4 (Annwyn 30) this year of 5768. Consequently, both Pesach Sheni and Beltaine Sheni come together through a "time" value of 30.

Ceridwen is associated in Celtic witchcraft with Beltaine. Yet, Ceridwen delivered to me a prophecy associated with Pesach. Taken together, Ceridwen represents for me stepping above the time of both, transcendently joining together Pesach and Beltaine.

As a lunar goddess, Ceridwen is linked with blessings bestowed through Yesod into Malchut. Pesach Rishon this year is April 20 (Nissan 15). The full moon of the witches' month of Annwyn is called the Drawing Down The Moon full moon, also on April 20 (Annwyn 16), suggesting a time through which the redemptive blessings are bestowed is April 20, which is the date of both Pesach Rishon and the Drawing Down full moon of Annwyn.

Grains Of Redemptive Blessing

The blessings bestowed from Ceridwen's cauldron are redemptive, drawn down from the powerful full moon which marks redemption from Mitzrayim, which is Pesach in Jewish tradition.

In Celtic tradition, six sacred grains of spellcraft were brewed as a grael in Ceridwen's cauldron. In terms of middot (measures), 6 grains = 388.79346 milligrams.

388 is the gematria of למשיח meaning "belonging to Mashiach"

79346 represents the five letters ודגטז, where five identifies the Divine Feminine of both Binah and Malchut. The five letters have a combined gematria of 29 - the same gematria as a Torah word used in Bereshit 48:16 to bestow blessing upon both children of Yosef, namely וידגו meaning "and let them grow".

And Yisrael blessed them saying, "let my name be named in them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth."

Taken together, Ceridwen's cauldron contains and "bestows the receptive" blessing "belonging to Mashiach" and "of Yisrael", suggesting that Ceridwen is the unified feminine archetype corresponding to masculine Yisrael. Importantly, Ceridwen represents she who bestows the blessing which ignites messianic consciousness, causing it to grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth, as waters cover the sea. Within the letter-sets of both blessings are the letters of the sha'ar (gate) דג, implying quick multiplication in great numbers.

The word וידגו (of Yisrael's blessing) begins with the letter ו, with a value of six, like the six grains of spellcraft brewed in Ceridwen's cauldron. Similarly, the letter-set ודגטז (of Ceridwen's blessing) also begins the the letter ו.

Yet differently, the word of Yisrael's blessing ends with a ו (the letter of connection) while the letter-set of Ceridwen's blessing ends with a ז (the letter of selection). Thus, Ceridwen's blessing represents the extension of Yisrael's blessing into manifest reality. Also, his blessing contains the letter י (a letter of projective energy, שפע), while her blessing contains the letter ט (a letter of receptive energy, קבל).

Ceridwen (Boudicca) and Yisrael (Yaakov) are parallel quantum coarse grains (one primarily an involutionary stream and one primarily an evolutionary stream of consciousness), who together, decohere consciousness into manifest history as described in my poem Coarse Grained Histories, Dialog With The Divine.

Transformative Pesach Prophecy

I woke up in the middle of the night last night with a vision imprinted upon my mind. In the vision, I was sitting at my office desk working on all the extra work that has been put upon me recently (which, by the way, I am successfully making my way through this immense sea of work). Ceridwen, the archetypal Celtic goddess of prophecy and transformation, walked through the doorway into my office. She had a look of controlled anger about her, as if she was restraining herself mightily against some injustice. She also had a halo, like the one she wears in my bronze statue of her cauldron and she (shown, click to enlarge). With Ceridwen's appearance, came the words "warning" and "the writers" (ה-כותבים).

The two messages were one essential communication, each message corresponding to the communication on a different perceptual level.

"Warning" was telepathic and completely encompassing and encircling, like Ceridwen's halo. It was non-local, yet focused sufficiently to be perceived by me. It was sufficient. It was enough. It was Divine Justice (Tzedek, Yesod, Shaddai). The word "warning" contained that sent forth into the world to deliver justice.

"The writers" was spoken telepathically through the archetypal goddess herself. Archetypes are matrices of Beriyah. Beriyah is the universe of discernment, distinction and the letter ה (the letter written in red upon the doorways of the Hebrews in Mitzrayim, and a prefix meaning "the"). Ceridwen, as the archetypal Celtic goddess of prophetic writing, is an archetypal "shoresh" (root) of all writers. Thus, Ceridwen, the root of all writers, spoke like an Elohim of writers, her words "the writers" writing the letter ה upon my doorway(s) as she entered. She was The Writer in my vision.

As well as being the goddess archetype of all prophetic writing, Ceridwen is a goddess archetype of transformation. "Writers" comes from the Hebrew shoresh כתב, meaning "to write" and "to record". A phonetic cognate of כתב is קטב, meaning "killing" and to "die suddenly". The firstborn of Mitzrayim died suddenly, receiving the root קטב as opposed to the root כתב. Googling "dilug" for some clue as to the significance of the quantum jump in consciousness I experienced during dinner Monday (see Dilug At Dinner), I found an interesting connection of my "dilug" (which was a quantized as opposed to a gradual energetic increase) to the observance of Pesach.

At Chabadtalk, I found this on Pesach Sheni and dilug:

After explaining that the dilug of Pesach Sheni is both a dilug from a higher place (than Pesach), and the dilug itself is also greater, the Rebbe confronts your issue:

The phrase dilug sh'lo b'hadraga in this discussion of Pesach Sheni refers to a jump of not a gradual nature but rather, is of a quantum nature (all at once)! like what I experienced Monday at dinner.

I understand the meaning of kein farfallen to be something to the effect of "not doomed", "not fallen", "not collapsed", "not hopeless", "not a lost cause", etc. Iz nita means "there is none here".

Thus, one interpretation of iz nita kein farfallen is "there is no one doomed here".

In follow-up to Soul Of Shomer Shabbat, the final 4 of the 8 Elemental Fire astrological points in my natal chart concentrate in the first zodiac house (the house of personality/purpose). The 4 points are:

Uranus/Hod - Tam (תם), with a gematria of 440, digit sum 8
Pluto/Malchut - Geut (גאות), with a gematria of 410, digit sum 5

According to the Gra configuration of the Tree of Life, the channel connecting Hod/Uranus and Malchut/Pluto is kuf (ק), the letter of kedushah (holiness). With a gematria of 100 (digit sum 1), it connects together 8 + 5 = 13. This is a holy 13, the hand (yad, 13 + 1) of holiness.

North Node - Rosh Ha-Teli (ראש התלי), head of the serpent, with a total gematria of 946, a reduced gematria of 19 (Chavah, חוה), and a final digit sum of 1 (echad אחד). Thus, the Chavah archetype mediates transformation of serpent consciousness into the consciousness of Echad.

Ascendant/Leo - Tet (ט), with a gematria of 9, the vessel of peace.

All of these numbers are very feminine essences - Hod of Binah (8), Malchut of Malchut (5), Chavah (19) and Tet (feminine Yesod, the ninth sefirah).

The digit sums taken together and brought down as one into Malchut through the holy (ק) gates of understanding are:

Death Passed Over

After my grandmother's passing this past Halloween morning October 31, the date Samhain is typically observed, the festival of death and renewal (of death only in the eyes of some, whereas others consider Samhain to be a festival of scholars) continued to seek out souls to remove from the physical world. While my grandmother's passing was not so unexpected at 92 years of age with failing health (it was an obvious blessing toward renewal of life for my grandmother even as it was a loss for my family), a woman's husband at work died unexpectedly the very next day, Thursday evening November 1 (may she be comforted by the kindness extended to her by our coworkers). Both she and her husband work(ed) at the facility where I work.

I went back to work on Monday, but after additional work was piled onto me, along with work associated with the end of the month close (which was completed Monday morning before it was due Wednesday), with the recent passing of my grandmother, my body developed an allergic cold/flu yesterday, Tuesday morning at work. I sneezed continuously the entire day, despite a second dose of newfangled Actifed, becoming lightheaded, feverish and physically weak. So, Tuesday afternoon, I went home early, loaded up on Robitussin nighttime multisymptom cold medicine and went to bed, where I dreamt.

I dreamt of dark lethal storm clouds passing over my locations, from east to west they were moving even as they filled the sky. At one point there was a small break in the cloud cover, but it was only for a short time, while we took care of business.

I wanted to wait out the storm on the main floor of my house (which was a house trailer at times) - for some reason I wasn't worried that it couldn't weather the storm. Nevertheless, the man with us (somehow a relative, but I'm not sure who exactly this was) convinced me that it was safer to wait underground in the basement while the dark lethal storm clouds passed over. So, we all went down and waited in the basement as the dark lethal storm clouds passed over.

I woke up - to the news of a lethal school shooting in Finland.

HELSINKI, Finland (CNN) -- A video posted earlier Wednesday, by "Sturmgeist89", was titled "Jokela High School Massacre - 11/7/2007." "Sturmgeist89" identified himself as Auvinen, and said he chose the name "Sturmgeist" because it means "storm spirit" in German.

At least eight people were killed when an 18-year-old gunman opened fire at a school in Finland Wednesday, according to Finnish police. The shooting appeared to have been planned out in graphic videos posted on Internet file-sharing site YouTube.

At a press conference this afternoon, police confirmed the dead numbered two girls, five boys and the school's headmistress at Jokela High in Tuusula, a quiet town around 50 kilometers (30 miles) north of Helsinki.

The shooter, who police named as Pekka Eric Auvinen, is in a critical condition at Toolo Hospital, Dr. Eeero Hirvensalo told CNN.

Auvinen published a manifesto online demanding war on the "weak-minded masses" and pledged to die for his cause.

YouTube appeared to have removed 89 videos linked to his account, many of them featuring Nazi imagery, shortly after the incident.

Finnish media reported someone posted a message two weeks ago on the Web site, warning of a bloodbath at the school.

The site indicated that the youth appeared to be fascinated with killing. Throughout all of this, the single word "DIE" constantly flashed across the screen. Other video clips included Nazi-war-criminal footage.

In the rambling text posted on the site, Auvinen said that he is "a cynical existentialist, anti-human humanist, anti-social social-Darwinist, realistic idealist and god-like atheist.

"I am prepared to fight and die for my cause," he wrote. "I, as a natural selector, will eliminate all who I see unfit, disgraces of human race and failures of natural selection."

My maternal grandmother, Gladys Collins-Faulkner, granddaughter of Sue Turner-Grunwald and Will Grunwald, daughter of Elizabeth Grunwald-Faulkner and George Samuel Faulkner, mother of Cheryl Collins-Taylor and grandmother to Liorah Lleucu HaMasovevet, passed over early this morning of Samhain, Ram Cheshvan 19, האלון full of years at the age of 92.

Mnemosyne was also the name for a river in Hades, counterpart to the river Lethe, according to a series of 4th century BC Greek funerary inscriptions in dactylic hexameter. Dead souls drank from Lethe so they would not remember their past lives when reincarnated. Initiates were encouraged to drink from the river Mnemosyne when they died, instead of Lethe. These inscriptions may have been connected with a private mystery religion, or with Orphic poetry.
