Ill-Conceived Advice

Wolfish Musings writes of a minhag or halachah floating around the J-world that a new husband should step on his new wife's foot either under the chupah or in the yichud room to "show her who's boss". This minhag/halachah is not only foolish, it isn't even effective. A new wife may be forgiving of the new husband's misstep and not zap him, but that in no way means he's boss.
