By Force Of Destiny

י'ג בתשרי תש"ע
Blodlessing 14

Last night before bed, I drew the seventeenth rune of my personal runerow. It was Nauthiz (pronounced now-these), the 'n' rune of change linked with the forces of destiny. An omen of good and necessary transformation, this rune also pertains to banishings, cleansing counterspells, and spell sealings. Nauthiz is the runic equivalent of the ritual words: so mote it be and אמן (amen).

In follow-up to this divination last night, the only unusual thing that happened in my environment today is that my boss left in a hurry this afternoon, telling us that her house had just been broken into. Otherwise, today was unremarkable and uneventful, except for the fact that I am swamped with work to do for end-of-the-month close and with writing complete clinical care plans for seven new Medicare admissions. Our skilled unit is completely full and our average Medicare rate remains, at month-end, excellent and increased above the our year-to-date average Medicare rate.

The Secret Chord

ט' בתשרי תש"ע
Blodlessing 10

In follow-up to earlier entries (Heikhalot, The Nine-Tenths Gate and Shabbat Proclamation - Time Is Gold), my facebook friend Jacek OSTROWSKI shared this treasure with me:

Gathered from the web, the full and complete lyrics to a perfectly imperfect song, Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen:

[[ Now, I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord.
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this,
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah.

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof.
You saw her bathing on the roof,
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you.
She tied you
To a kitchen chair.
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair,
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah.

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

You say I took the name in vain.
I don't even know the name.
But if I did, well really, what's it to you?
There's a blaze of light
In every word.
It doesn't matter which you heard,
The holy or the broken Hallelujah.

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah ]]

Baby, I've been here before.
I know this room, I walk this floor.
I used to live alone before I knew you.
Yeah, I've seen your flag on the marble arch,
But listen love, love is not some kind of victory march,
No, it's a cold and it's a very broken Hallelujah.

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah ... {Hallelujah}

There was a time when you let me know
What's really going on below.
Ah, but now you never show it to me, do you?
And remember when I moved in you,
The holy dove, she was moving too,
Yes, and every single breath that we drew was Hallelujah.

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Maybe there's a God above,
As for me, all I ever seem to learn from love
Is how to shoot at someone who outdrew you.
Yeah, but it's not a complaint that you hear tonight,
It's not the laughter of someone who's claims to have seen the light,
No, it's a cold and it's a very lonely Hallelujah.

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

I did my best, it wasn't much
but I couldn't feel, so I learned to touch.
I've told the truth, I didn't come all this way to fool you.
Yeah, and even though
It all went wrong
I'll stand right here before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah.

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Heikhalot, The Nine-Tenths Gate

ט' בתשרי תש"ע
Blodlessing 10

On Blodlessing 10, Tishrei 9 ... I dreamt.

In a harbor on a cabined boat sitting on the water glistening with light under a full moon on a clear night, were two couples. Facing them from the middle, on my left the woman was sitting on a bench and the man was in the pool-like chamber at her feet submerged under the water in the pool-chamber. Like a link cord to outside the pool-chamber, she was holding on to him with her right hand. She could pull him out if he started to drown.

Facing them, to my right, the couple was standing facing a wall. The woman was going to ascend the wall. It was dangerous, but she was going to do it. The man at her side had a decision to make - was he going to lay it all on the line and follow her or not? He would die if she failed. He would live eternally if she succeeded. Did he want her enough to risk dying for her?

He decided. He took off his shoes and began to take off his clothes. He was going to ascend the wall with her, be the result death or life - all that mattered was being with her.

The scene changed. A single couple was flying down a lonely bare prairie dirt road in the middle of nowhere. There was only pale beige land on either side of the road leading to who knows where. All of a sudden, the woman left the bare dirt road and turned at a right angle into the land on our right of the road. He went with her, and in our tracks the trail blazed behind us lighting up with sparks like fire.

We were among a small handful of people who were in a chamber between worlds. The chamber was like an enclosed windowless greenhouse with rows of enchanted trees in it. The trees were guardians. The trees were fruit trees but I saw no fruit - the trees themselves may have been the fruit, because the temptation was to eat of the tree itself. Looking back as we walked on, I saw one person reach up to pluck of the tree - and as he reached, touched and ate of it (which were somehow all one simultaneous action), the tree hideously transformed into a tree-like venus flytrap which chomped down on the man, biting him in half. The trap-tree ate his top half above his waist first as his bottom half stood motionless in the path between the rows of trees waiting to be also hideously eaten.

Untempted by the enchanted fruit trees, I and the man with me and a few others, walked on into the next chamber. There were guardians in this chamber as well. They were humanoid guardian spirits, but they were completely chalk white like clouds and dressed all in white. They were also deadly feminine. I and the man with me kept moving through it, but I looked behind me - one of the males in the group had been tempted to kiss one of the female guardian spirits - he immediately died.

Moving on, I and the man with me, and fewer others, moved on into the next chamber. This chamber was just like the last chamber only these white guardian spirits were deadly male and functioned to tempt the female to kiss them. I was completely untempted.

A flashback or remembrance - I was a single woman among couples sitting at a table playing cards. I laid my five cards on the table - four cards were a straight and the last card was a wild card. Just then, one of the couples' corresponding human female opened the door and came into the room. She was very pregnant (at term) and dressed in a white nightrobe (her skin had the color of life in it) - I was a nurse and she asked me to help her. We went into the bathroom, and she showed me that she was bleeding. There were streaks of blood in the water in the water bowl. I told her she needed to call the doctor. She wasn't hemorrhaging, it was just a little bit of spotting, but she did need to see the doctor immediately.

Back in the otherworldly chamber, I remained untempted to kiss any of the male guardians. They became frustrated with me because I was successfully resisting all of them. One guardian lost his composure and with frustrated impatient desperation, came over and bit me (or the man with me, as our identities were no longer separated) at the base of my neck - if he could bite me, he thought, he could make me bleed and I would die. I didn't bleed at all. I saw that, while all the others still had skin with the color of life in it, my skin was completely chalk white just like the guardians. I had no blood in me. I failed to bleed and ...

... woke up. As I was waking, I saw fire spark into a peaceful brilliant radiating light (like when spirits touch) at the place on the north corner of my altar where I burn a red autumn spice tea candle sitting in a sea green pentacle bowl. (Now I know with confidence that the elemental directions of my altar are as they need to be and are: North - fire/light, East - air, South - water, West - earth. My altar itself sits along the east wall of my bedroom.)

Shabbat Proclamation - Time Is Gold

ט' בתשרי תש"ע
Blodlessing 10

Yesterday, on Shabbat Blodlessing 9, I received in the mail my wolfsbane talisman containing the power of both life and death. In the package with it was a tarot gift card - the nine of chalices. I lovingly placed the talisman in my small (3 1/2" x 2 1/4" x 2 1/8") handcrafted metallic black altar spell box featuring a gold pentacle. The tarot card I placed upright onto the screen of my computer to contemplate it overnight into the morning.

Later that day, a family member recalled a movie that she had ordered weeks ago which was still sitting around waiting to be watched. We watched it. That movie was Just Like Heaven. The first reviewer (in the first link I clicked on in a search to link to it for this post) I saw (Kristin Pettit) rated the film nine.

I know with confidence that I am prepared for sure and pleasurable satisfaction.

Last night on Motzei Shabbat Tishrei 9, I dreamt ... (next post)

Mother Of Manifest Blessing

ג' בתשרי תש"ע
Blodlessing 4

In follow-up to earlier entries (Times of Judgment And Blessing and She Who Named Him Adam), complementing the Fehu rune and the three Hebrew triplets inscribed on my Rosh Hashanah-Mabon ritual candle as previously described, I also inscribed the mother of manifestation rune, namely, Uruz (pronounced ooo-rooze, like the 'oo' as in boo!). Uruz, with the phonetic values of 'u' and 'v', means drizzle, rain and horns of blessing. It is a force which patterns and formulates reality, natural order and tradition.

It rained here today.

Wyrd Preparation

כ'ח באלול תשס״ט
Belz 29

Last night before bed I drew the fifteeth rune of my personal runerow, namely Gebo (pronounced gay-boe or yee-boe), the 'g' rune which signifies mystical union, increase in magical power, and acquisition of numinous knowledge and wisdom. Gebo brings blessing upon partnerships and relationships. Gebo also may foretell of an upcoming "powerful and synchronistic wyrd experience."

The force of this rune follows perfectly from my previous entry, Power To Do It, and is a good omen as we approach Rosh Hashanah and Mabon, times of judgment and blessing.

Power To Do It

כ'ד באלול תשס״ט
Belz 25

Last night before bed I drew the fourteenth rune for my personal runerow, namely, the rune Ingwaz (pronounced eeeng-wawz) with an 'ng' phonetic value like the nasal 'ng' in the word singer.

Edred Thorsson (Runelore) writes, 'The Ingwaz-force is that which is released to give the plentiful year." It is a rune of peace, prosperity, cosmic nourishment, deep-level gestation and new power. In it are new ideas and solutions. Through it, people reach their potential, and homes and hearth are protected. Ingwaz is the principle of isolation, of wholiness, of being set aside in a period of contained concentrated transformational separation, of walking widdershins against the sun into the peaceful darkness of solitude. Ingwaz describes the nature of my life situation for nearly two decades now.

Drawing this rune last night immediately after posting Times Of Judgment And Blessing indicates to me that my life experience has now been concentrated, focused and magnified in Ingwaz, and through Ingwaz, the force to bring to fruition my Mabon-Rosh Hashanah spell working to project and distribute magical power, prosperity, success, healing, health, and protection from the evil eye person to person among my soul family is ready to be released.

What a wonderful divination!

Thurisaz On The Falling Man

כ'ג באלול תשס״ט
Belz 24

Thurisaz (pronounced thoor-ee-saws) is voiceless like the 'th' in the word 'thorn'. Thurisaz is the rune of regeneration following destruction. Bringing with it active destruction of curses and enemies, thurisaz turns destruction into a directed force of cosmic defense, where the awakened energy of the Universe and all its multiplicty acts in our defense.

An excerpt from Dorothy Morrison's Utterly Wicked: Curses, Hexes & Other Unsavory Notions:

The pixels in a computer graphic ... they are only dots of color - nothing more, nothing less. But when an artist moves them together in a particular order and directs them into a proper measurement, an image forms. The pixels, themselves, have no control over whether the image is dreadful or gloomy, or bright and cheerful. They are, after all, just dots of color. It is the artist who brings the image to light - and evokes the desired feeling from those who view it - by moving and directing the pixels in a certain fashion. The same is true of energy and the practitioner.

Negative energy should never be returned to the sender. Dorothy goes on to write:

Because if both [magical] practitioners have their shields in place - and they certainly should if they're worth their salt - all this is going to do is cause a game of psychic volleyball. The energy is going to just bounce back and forth until someone gets tired. And we can only hope that someone is the practitioner who sent the energy in the first place.

Think about it. Dorothy continues:

Regardless of how it feels, all energy is a gift. It's the very substance from which everything is created. And that being the case, it should never be sent back. Instead, it should be grabbed up, moved and directed, and formed and shaped into something entirely different - something wonderful - something that can be used for personal [or collective] benefit.

Taking someone's ill-will and turning it into a blessing is divinely wicked. We can square the circle. We can take any supply of negative energy and focus it into good fortune. We are a people who is able.

True Power

כ'ב באלול תשס״ט
Belz 23

Last night before bed I drew the rune Elhaz (pronounced ale-hawz), the 'z' rune, signifying protection and linkage of the Witch and her personal Divinity, her daimon and her genius. My dream last night has since faded into nothingness, but I did do something awfully personally divine today - I resisted both fresh strawberry banana twinkie whipped cream delight and turtle ice cream cake! Thank Goddess, I actually did it and didn't eat any of the offered goodies.

That's true power! :)

In follow-up to Spirit Night In The Land Of The Living, a witch's psalm:

My soul is sated with deep affection, even at the brink of Sheol.
I am counted with those who come up from the Pit;
I am a woman who is able,
blessed among the dead, who are like bodies rising from the grave
of whom we are mindful ever more, they are embraced in our hands.
We have been placed at the mouth of the Pit,
over the darkest places, over the depths,
by the wall of ascension, where the wholy broken vessels we meet.

Spirit Night In The Land Of The Living

כ' באלול תשס״ט
Belz 21

Last night I dreamt.

For one night, the way was open for the dead to come up from the cavern of the dead to walk among the living.

I saw as some of the dead came up from a deep cavern through the surface opening which led into the land of the living. Not all of the dead could come up. Only the dead who had the strength and will to climb up to the cavern's opening could make it up. Not only human dead could take advantage of this night, but the dead of all living creatures could if they had the will and strength to do it. In fact, I saw some spiders and small bugs who did take advantage of the opportunity to return to the land of the living for this brief period of time.

One small spunky girl bug who came up reminded me of both a praying mantis and a giraffe - she was skinny like a praying mantis but she had a longer neck like a giraffe. The small girl bug was climbing up the cavern wall, struggling to reach the opening, pulling her mate bug up with her who didn't have the strength to climb anymore. The girl bug had strength enough for both of them. She was determined to make it to the opening and she was going to bring her mate bug with her. She did too. I smiled when she made it to the top, male bug in tow.

One teen girl who specifically came up was my responsibility. I had called her up apparently. I cupped her face in my hands, hoping she was not mad at me for calling her up. She wasn't mad. On the contrary, she thanked me for the blessing of enabling her to walk one more night among the living. She went on her way.

Even in the dream, I was cognizant that last night was neither Samhain nor Yom Kippur, even though I felt the night embodied the spirit of both. As I was considering this, a rabbi appeared also in the room into which the cavern opened, also from the land of the living like me. He too, was greeting one of the dead, who then went on his way as the teen girl had.

After the teen girl, I thought my responsibility was over. But it wasn't - the rabbi said to me, "come, we have to go greet the dead." As the dead came up into the land of the living, we greeted them. Many came. We greeted them all, welcoming each one into the land of the living.

I woke up.

Without Insight

י'ט באלול תשס״ט
Belz 20

In follow-up to my previous post, The Alphabet Murders, I drew the Hagalaz rune of protection last night before bed. The dream which followed that drawing wasn't apparently connected to the old unsolved murders.

I dreamt.

I was laying in an ICU (intensive/critical care unit) bed with my head at the foot of the bed with a male patient whose head was at the head of the bed. He was on IV fluids. I woke up in a very very tired state, with my cosmetic bag in my hand. I had to get up because I was a nurse, not a patient. I also had to go to work but I didn't have on any cosmetics for work.

Though I was very very tired, I got up to get ready for work. I forced myself to wake up and get up despite the weariness I felt in my body.

I needed to find a bathroom in which to wash up, apply my cosmetics and get ready for work. While considering where I might find a bathroom, the charge nurse of the ICU where I was working came up to me and told me that she had assigned me to work out on one of the general medical units instead of in my regular ICU unit. I knew why she had done that, she told me even - I was really competent at what I did and she didn't want me working in the ICU because my knowledge and clinical aptitude made all the other nurses look not so competent. She didn't want the doctors to compare all her other nurses to me, so I was banished to working the general medical floor where my talents would have less opportunity to shine.

I hated being a nurse and I hated working on the general medical unit as a nurse even more. It was so incredibly boring and didn't fit my personality at all. While I hated being a clinical nurse, I could at least tolerate working in the ICU because I was somewhat intellectually challenged by the clinical complexity of the medical problems of most patients in ICU. There was also more complex technology to work with in the ICU than on the general medical floor - like mechanical ventilators, swan ganz catheters, etc. My personality is one that prefers working with data and figuring things out - and I am good at it. Being banished to the general medical unit was like being banished to hell. ICU was no paradise for me, because I didn't like clinical nursing period, but at least it wasn't hell.

Nevertheless, I went to find a bathroom to get ready for work. After cleaning up, I couldn't find the general medical unit. I walked through the hospital, looking for signs and asking directions, but I could not find it anywhere. I kept ending up in the lobby.

I woke up.

This rather uninsightful dream just rehashed my dislike of clinical nursing and of working directly with people in that capacity. (I don't work in a hospital or as a staff nurse anymore at this point in my life.)

I conclude that I have been 'disconnected' from the alphabet murders.

The Alphabet Murders

י'ח באלול תשס״ט
Belz 19

Sometimes it isn't so pleasant what the Universe wants to communicate to and through you. My interest in magical alphabets and my 'double-initial' name tie me to this chilling synchronicity.

I just got through watching a movie a family member ordered through Netflix today called The Alphabet Murders. The movie is loosely based upon a true case of 'double-initial' murders called the alphabet murders which occurred in Rochester, NY in the 1970's. This family member does not read my blogs nor follow my magical interests at all.

My current legal name is a 'double-initial' name, as is one of my magical names, Liorah Lleucu. I will draw a rune before bed tonight, and see if the Universe communicates any insight to me on this set of as yet still unsolved alphabet murders.

For whatever this synchronicity is worth, I will post any dream which comes from it tomorrow evening in memory of and in responsibility to the murdered girls. Perhaps the murders will not be solved by any amazing insight I may be shown - the dream may not even seem to be directly related to the murders - nevertheless, who knows, the energetic connection brought together through the metaphysical synchronicity I now have with the alphabet murders may bring forth the channel necessary to manifest karmic justice in the Universe.

The Universe does not bring about a synchronicity without purpose, of this I am certain.

The Melismatic Runes

י'ח באלול תשס״ט
Belz 19

In follow-up to my previous entry (Wyrd Shema), I hereby designate, as demonstrated within the context of my own experience, the wyrd rune and Dagaz to link to the melismatic Torah ta'am, shalshelet (שלשלת). The hebrew word שלשלת can be translated as 'chain', 'chain of events' and 'development'. Importantly, this ta'am (cantillation mark) pertains to esoteric transmission and development of mystical-magical-practical tradition, both in terms of giving and receiving - in other words, it embodies a living meta-dynamic of reciprocal communication generation to generation, whereby the Receiver of Tradition becomes a full partner with the Divine Ancestors, among whom I am, in creating and bestowing Tradition.

Personal Runerow Still Under Construction

Wyrd Shema

י'ח באלול תשס״ט
Belz 19

The tenth rune I drew before bed is the 'd' rune Dagaz (pronounced thaw-gauze), where 'd' is voiced softly like the letters 'th' in the words 'the' and 'then' - dagaz is never pronounced thickly like in the word 'thick' or like a 'd' in the word 'dog'. Dagaz is the rune of total awakening, encoding the mysteries of whole paradox and unity in multiplicity. Through dagaz, seeming opposites are One.

I dreamt.

The dream was wyrd. In it and among a group of different ones who had gathered together like gypsies on the move to avoid capture by hunter-constructs of a rigid mechanical-like world seeking to control us, I met a man. This man was to become my mate. We tested each other sort of, in the sense of having the ability to accept one another completely, then came together. In doing so, we were lifted out of ourselves and into the stars - into, and as returning members among, a civilization of which the Universe is made.

I woke up.

The tenth and eleventh 'places' in my developing personal runerows are occupied by dagaz and the wyrd rune.

I Am My Craft

י'ח באלול תשס״ט
Belz 19

When anyone asks me how long I have been a witch or how long I have been studying my craft, there really is no answer in time that is truly accurate. I am my craft.

There are so many synchronous events clearly, naturally and seamlessly apparent in my life now, I see - to say that the Universe and I are in constant conversation and timeless communication would not be inaccurate. Neither would it be inaccurate to say that I am the Universe. There is no separation. There never has been and never will be.

Nature Of My Work

ט'ו באלול תשס״ט
Belz 16

The ninth rune I drew earlier this week before bed is the 't' rune, Tiwaz (pronounced tea-wawz). Tiwaz is the rune of troth and truth which endures all hardships, exactitude, precision, and methodical analysis. This describes the nature of the work that I do for a living and the way I do it.

Communication

י׳ב באלול תשס״ט
Belz 13

Last night before bed I drew the eighth rune, the eighth rune in the first row in the new configuration of my personal runerows. It was the 'ei' rune Eihwaz (pronounced eye-wawz), the rune which links the overworld, the earth and the underworld together through the central axis of the cosmic tree, opening up communication through all levels of reality. This rune unifies the mysteries of death and life. It's energy is a powerful protector and banisher of detrimental forces.

May my plight and need be communicated through all levels to Goddess. So mote it be, אמן.
