Uncle Moishy commented over at Dov Bear, on Mrs. Mysogynist:
It is sad to think that in segments of the orthocommunity where traditional gender roles are still strictly enforced, a daughter could be born with a rare, piercing intellect -- a true illuy (or whatever the fem. version of illuy is) -- but her potential contribution to klal yisroel would likely never be realized.
And we will be called to account for the waste of human potential. Moreover, intellect can be developed in those with the desire to develop it. Men study Talmud to develop the intellect. I think women inclined with the desire ought to be able to do so, as well.
