Though I am uncomfortable with the violent "popular message" of fundamentalist Islam, I support the decision which enabled Congressman Keith Ellison to take the oath of office on his sacred text, the Koran. The Koran is not only the sacred text of intolerant Muslims, it is the sacred text of enlightened Muslims as well. Decisions like this one enabling Ellison to take the oath of office like he did make me proud to be an American.
Oceanguy has some problems with Ellison's choice of the Jefferson copy of the Koran. Regardless of how that choice can be spun against Ellison's motivations, today is a victory for America and American values.
